She's a baker, specializing in cake that are more like works of art. He owns a bar and begins an exclusive event planning business with his three older sisters. His sister Kiki met Hannah, the baker, in an art class and introduced her to the group. As an only child, Hannah warms up quickly to the quad of party planners, especially Cade. He's a wiz at business and she's just starting her own bakery. A contract is drawn, signed on the dotted line and these two get down to business and a deep friendship. Both know how much love hurts and their friendship is just what the other needs. Just when the lines of friendship start to blur, the book ends. Err!

I knew there was a slight cliffhanger per the author's warning, but this isn't small! Super irritating as a reader. If less time had been spent on the wishy-washy wavering of feelings and more on the progression of the relationship, I would've liked this book more and awarded more stars. It's just a big tease as it stands!! I'll pay attention to the reviews of the next book in this series before purchasing.

A romance doesn't happen, just a lot of teasing & flirting of friends. It's hard to recommend a book on those merits. It does introduce a lot of secondary characters, and the premises is good, but I hoped for more. Unable to recommend.

No Weddings Volume 1 Kat Bastion Stone Bastion 9780615993126 Books Reviews

Did not like this book. Can't understand the 5 stars by some people. Kept waiting for Cade and Hannah to get romantic. Dragged on with sentences that just filled in paragraphs. Then you get to the end and are left hanging. Would not bother to read the next book. Who knows if they get together or you are left hanging again. I liked all the characters but the story just went on and on with the boring date schedule .
I got up to the point in the story where the contract between the party planners and the baker is being discussed. Once I hear the baker (who is a one-woman operation in business for 6-9 months) has to agree to do no wedding cakes whatsoever for anyone else ever and has to go to all events where her cakes are being served to serve these cakes and dispose of the leftovers, I stopped reading. I didn't see how any catering company could survive without doing weddings (and the reason they couldn't do weddings is because our hero, Cade, can't keep his hands (and other body parts) off of wedding party members or attendees). Instead of telling him to grow up and stop being such a pig, the sisters agree to not do any weddings (as well as no kid parties), so that doesn't leave a lot of other parties. They also calculated they'd be doing 2 events per month so I don't see how any of them are going to make this work financially (and then dragging down the poor baker as well since she can't do any weddings ever). I would also think a catering company would have professional servers to serve the food and cake, but apparently I would be wrong - the actual baker has to do it (but she can charge whatever she deems reasonable - which also doesn't make a lot of financial sense and the contract says the cakes have to be "perfect"). Cade, however, does attend the Wharton School of Business and likes to make money, so I'm sure all will be well!
No weddings. No business sense. No interesting story line. No point. No romance. No ending.
All it seemed to be, to me, was an extremely long round about way to get to, what turns out to be, nowhere.
If you want me to buy the next book to get the end of the first book (a marketing strategy I despise), heres a thought, make the first one so interesting, enough so that Ill care what happens.
This one failed in the extreme on that front.
Ugh- what a waste of time. I can't stand these multiple book series. Nothing but a big cliffhanger with absolutely no resolution.
Once again here is a book written with no ending. To me, this story told in this book could have been condensed to the first 1/3 of a decent novel that actually had a conclusion. I feel if an author has to write a cliff hanger to get people to buy the next book in the series, they are not a very good writer. Write a fantastic book, where the story has a conclusion, and we will buy more. Plenty of top authors have series that go on for decades, but they never leave you feeling that you wasted your time and money. Each book in a series should be able to stand alone, but build on earlier books, and leave room for more.
This book was a great read, until the end. When you're on an international flight that doesn't have wifi and you're left hanging. So you land, get on the internet and realize there are 5 different purchases to this book. Annoying. Sell me a BOOK do not offer up the first 20%.
It was refreshing to read a story told from the Hero's PoV. I liked Cade a lot and enjoyed his insight. I liked Hannah too, until she fell apart. I could understand her reluctance to get involved, could relate to her fear of being hurt again, but her reaction when confronted by her ex and her subsequent treatment of Cade, a man who had done nothing but cater to her neuroses, was irritating to say the least.
Also, I can't tell you how surprised I was that the story ended where it did. This was a long story. For it to end without resolution is almost criminal. 65,000 words and you can't tell a complete story?
Though I liked the book and wish I knew how it ended, I'm not a cliffhanger/serial reading kinda girl. I won't buy another one in this series. The time I invested in this was not worth the lack of satisfaction I got out of it.
