Fall of the Dragon Prince The Forgotten Heirs Trilogy Dan Allen Books Reviews

THIS BOOK!!! Uhh, it took me forever to find the words to be able to write a review for it. It took me by surprise, and honestly, it's been years since I've read a book that has captivated me so much. I was hooked from the beginning of the book, and now that it's over, I don't know what to do with myself. I need the next book in this series!

Fall of the Dragon Prince is a wonderful fantasy with dragons. I have to admit, that was the main reason I picked up the book at first, because I love dragons! The story switches between a few different storylines, all within the same world, but making you fall in love with the stories, even if they never do intertwine.

At first we meet Toran, the King and the uniter of the Five Realms, as he rages through a huge war, ending in the birth of his son. Flash forward 26 years and then we meet Reann, a servant at the king's castle, but he's been dead for many years without an heir to the thrown. She's determined to find the missing heirs and get them to take the throne that has been siting empty for thirteen years.

Then we meet Terith, a dragon rider of the Montazi, and one of the best at that. He's preparing for a huge dragon race among many other champion riders, which will let him choose his wife among the eligible, along with the possibility of becoming the chief. But there is a darkened rider who threatens his survival in the race, along with that of the others. An invasion strikes them and the dragon riders battle what seems to be an impossible fight.

This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time, going from one action-packed scene to another, throwing in the needed slow scenes to build up the tension again. I have to say, there were a few things I expected to happen, but then as things started changing, I was no longer sure what to think, making it hard to completely guess what was going to happen. After reading this book, it made me realize I haven't been completely rating books well by giving them 5 star reviews. In reality, this book makes up a 5 star rating, but I just wanna give it a 6 compared to those others. Stellar book and I cannot wait for the next one!!!
This is Allen's debut novel, and it is an excellent one. The world is easy to get into and the characters are well developed. There are multiple story arcs going on at the same time and they are well done and don't compete with each other. I loved it.

Brief Summary from Goodreads

“Toran joined the five realms and tied their destinies to the survival of his secret heirs. But the king is now dead and his enemies gather.

Reann, a serving girl and self-appointed librarian of Toran’s estate, has a chance to unravel the greatest mystery in the realm.

On the other side of the kingdom, Terith and the other dragon riders fight to stop the invasion that would mean the fall of the empire. In this cross-country dragon race, Terith faces a black-hearted traitor with even darker purposes, to win the kingdom and the heart of the woman he loves. One rider will fall; one fate will rise.”

The novel alternates between the stories of Reann and Terith, but both stories have other important characters woven in. The diversity in characters is one of the things that drew me in the most and left me wanting to continue the trilogy.

Reann, a servant in the castle, is desperate to find one of the 5 secret heirs of Toran. She creative, sneaky, and cunning as she searches for clues to help her in her predicament. While she is young and makes mistakes, she is a character that's easy to like from the beginning.

Terith's story is completely different. A champion in a swamp-like realm where the warriors train and ride dragons, Terith hopes to earn his place as the future chief through marriage to one of the eligible daughters. Terith is a brave, honorable character from the start who puts the safety of his people ahead of all other things. He's a dream guy who sees plenty of action in the deadly swamp where he lives.

Together, the two stories are a perfect paring. Reann uses clues and secrecy to slowly uncover a mystery, while Terith faces tough challenges and saves his people. It's the best of both worlds rolled cohesively into one.

Rating

I loved this story and rate it a 4.5 out of 5. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a slow burn fantasy that's sure to turn into an epic series.
This was a great story, brilliantly told and very creative. The more I read, the less I could put it down. I am anxiously awaiting book 2 of this trilogy.
Great read full of surprises and twists in plot. Very imaginative background.
Great young adult novel! It was always moving and the twists kept me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait for the next book to come out!
I just finished Fall of the Dragon Prince and was amazed at how action-packed and captivating it is. This is a great book for young adults as well as adults. I look forward to reading the second one.
A truly gripping tale of five heirs who must re-unite to save their land from overthrow and chaos. Allen has composed a fantasy thriller with thorough character development, consistent magic use, and involved plot development. My only regret is that I have to wait for the next book to see where the story goes.
