What do an immigrant, a black agnostic, a Christian Arab, and una latina morena have in common?

As of 2017, in the United States, they are systematically oppressed. Rose Thompson has a camera and a dream to capture the stories of these marginalized teenagers to put together a documentary.

Just Like A Caucasian isn’t your average race book. It’s poignant and refreshing. Odera O’Gonuwe aptly discusses the real problems minorities face and how they navigate these polarized waters.

Just Like A Caucasian eBook Odera O'Gonuwe

In this small but powerful book, the author gives realistic, touching insights into how race and class differences affect a group of teenagers. Told from a variety of viewpoints, the book allows the reader to listen in on discussions that are sometimes uncomfortable but always enlightening. I descriptions of how a Nigerian-American experiences black culture differently than a so-called "African-American," for example, were especially thought-provoking. The fact that the author is a teenager makes this book even more impressive. If this is the voice of the future, it's one of wisdom, fairness, challenge, and change.

Just Like A Caucasian eBook Odera O'Gonuwe Reviews

Unbelievable how blatantly racist this book is on accusing white people for problems. Total garbage and a waste of 10 dollars. I was hoping to read an interesting perspective on the matter, but was instead treated to a angered and quite racist story against white people.
Amazing. Best book ive read in a while
This was a fantastic book! Just Like A Caucasian is the story of four immigrant teenagers, each with their own unique and important perspective - sort of a modern Breakfast Club, but more politically aware. Every chapter is from the perspective of a different character as their lives intertwine. This book challenges its readers to question their own privilege and consider where other people are coming from. Now more than ever, we need to learn more about how we are all connected and how differing backgrounds help shape who we are. This was a quick read, and I highly recommend it!
This book is truly amazing. Just Like A Caucasian shows the real truth about the minority perspective. I loved everything about the novel. The characters are so refreshing and real. It was so eye opening. The writing style was beautiful and straight to the point. I only wish it were longer!!
‘Just Like a Caucasian’ is an unflinching and thought-provoking novella that explores the intersections of race, economic disadvantage, sexuality and religion against a backdrop of the current American socio-political climate. Told from the perspective of minority teens, this story reads more like a series of essays or conversations in which the characters discuss and examine institutionalized racism, privilege, colorism, stereotypes, identity, heteronormativity, intolerance, prejudice, reverse racism and microaggressions in a way that is both incredibly powerful and painfully honest. This is smart, poignant and timely. While I imagine some readers will find this story challenges their preconceived world view, it will hopefully help to foster understanding and empathy towards those with experiences outside of their own. A quick but important read that is well worth the time.
